...how's your practice ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past years we've all learned to:
...be careful what we wish for,
...that our thoughts become things;
...to focus on what we want; feel that we deserve it; to choose happiness;
...and that happiness is the fountain of youth.
We've also all learned:
...to love ourselves more and to feel worthy of what develops;
...that nothing we want is upstream, and that everything positive is downstream;
...and that it's not about what happens to us but it's how we handle what happens to us.
We also know:
...that unconditional love is the art of allowing ourself to be who we really are;
...that when we are conscious and connected - everything feels good,
...and that life is supposed to feel good.
...that it's not about our ability, but rather our heart, and who we are becoming along the way.
For me personally this year has been about finding my way back to all the things that i love with many lessons to share to thousands...
...i could not have done this as downstream as it has been without the unconditional support of so many..
...i dont have many words to say but thank you soo very much.
...i will never forget the love, the laughter, the heart, the listening, and your kind words.
...i am so grateful that you are in my life.
...no need to respond.
...i just wanted you to know how i was feeling as the year comes to a close.
...thank you again; know i am so appreciative..
...finish your year soo strong for yourself that momentum becomes wind at your back in 2009: downstream where no oars are needed and the beauty and energy of the universe takes you where you want to go.
...i'll see you along the way.
...with love, happiness, worth, wellness, and hope,

" They are not missing anything. They have everything they need."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You've seen them before, everyday as a matter of fact, they stick out from all the others, yet they are the last ones to notice, because they still don't know it; still don’t get it, still don’t let it.
They are all around us at any given moment, you know who i'm taking about: those that cant get enough, those that don’t seem to do enough, cant train enough, always need more, have that extra long check list of things to do, that extra run, that extra swim, that extra workout, that extra mileage, those extra things to do for the kids, that extra volunteer project.
You know who i'm taking about: they complain or fill themselves with anxiety if they don’t complete, or if they don’t compete; they feel guilty to take a day off; a day off would feel/be like in prison, or they would feel like a weak person or a sense of unworthiness would come over them when, actually that day off would be the best, most-loving thing they could do for themselves. And yes, they get irritable, judgmental, and/or injured when it counts most.
What-up with these people; what's behind their unhappiness or their feeling of "the need for more”?
Let's bottom line it:
The ego identifies with having, but it's satisfaction is a short lived one; you see, the ego never gets enough.
Concealed within the ego remains a deep sense of dissatisfaction, of incompleteness, of "i am not enough yet."
This "fiction" or "illusion" created by the ego is to give itself uniqueness, or specialness. Since we can never find ourselves through having, the ego has another powerful drive underneath it called "wanting", the need for more. Therefore: wanting keeps the ego alive much more than having. This need for more is like an addictive character trait.
In some cases, this feeling of "not enough" is so powerful that it transforms itself to the physical level and so turns into insatiable hunger. The sufferers of over training or bulimia will often make themselves vomit or train excessively so they can continue eating. Their mind is hungry, not their body. Yet this eating/training disorder would become healed if the sufferers, instead of identifying with their mind, would get in touch with their body and so feel the true needs of the body rather than the imbalanced egoic mind.
Some egos know what they want and pursue with ruthless determination. The energy behind this wanting, however, creates an opposing energy of equal negativity that will eventually lead to injury, burnout, or their downfall, thus making themselves or others unhappy.
Wanting is structural, so no amount of volume or enough can provide lasting fulfillment as long as that mental structure remains in place...that "..i am not enough.".
As long as they don’t recognize these mind-thought forms, as long as they remain unconscious, condemned to "seeking" and not finding, no possession, place, person, or condition will ever satisfy them.
No matter what they have or get, they wont be happy. They will always looking for something else, some greater fulfillment to make their incomplete sense of self-complete, to eliminate that sense of lack.
Unless they start believing that they are not missing anything, that they have everything they need, that their life' mission is to reveal their best self - from within, and not from the external; that life truly is an inside job; that life truly works from the inside - out....they will be unhappy.
Know anyone like this or that? Forward this passage along.
And remember: you aren't missing anything.
See you at the studio; see you in the tour.

"...If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whenever we face challenges in our day, even loss, we will either resist or we will yield.
Some people respond and become resentful, or bitter; others become compassionate, wise, and loving.
Yielding, or surrender means inner acceptance of what is. They are open to life.
Resistance is an inner contraction, a hardening of the shell of the ego. They are closed to life.
Whatever action we take in a state of resistance (negativity) will actually create more outer resistance, and the universe will not be on our side; life will not be helpful.
If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in.
When we yield internally, or surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up.
If action is necessary, that action will be in alignment with the whole and supported by intelligence.
Circumstances and people then become helpful and cooperative. Coincidences happen.
Spirit is released from its imprisonment in matter. We realize our true identity as this awakening, an alignment, a peace with a greater force.
The ultimate truth of who we are is not " i am this " or " i am that ", but rather " I Am".
Have an amazing summer.

.... when you believe in people, they do the impossible.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faith in people is an essential quality when working with others, yet it's a scarce commodity today.
Let's take a look at four facts about faith:
1) most people don’t have faith in themselves.
2) most people don’t have someone who has faith in them.
3) most people can tell when someone has faith in them.
4) most people will do anything to live up to our faith in them.
When we have faith in others we give them an incredible gift. Give money and soon it's spent. Give resources and they may not be used to the best advantage. Give help and they'll be back where they started in a short period of time. But give them our faith and they become confident, energized, and self-reliant.
Become a believer in people and even the most tentative and inexperienced people can bloom right be fore our eyes. Remember: our goal is not to get people to think more highly of us, it's to get them to think more highly of themselves.
Difficulties seldom defeat people, lack of faith in themselves usually does it.
Believe in people before they succeed.
It's easy to have faith in people who have already proved themselves, it's much tougher to believe in people before they have proved themselves.....but THAT is the key to motivating people to reach their potential…we have to believe in them first, before their success, and sometime even before they believe in themselves.
Every person has the seeds of greatness within, even though they may be dormant. But when we believe in people, we water the seeds and give them a chance to grow. Every time we put our faith in them, we're giving life-sustaining water, warmth, fuel, and light. And if we continue to give encouragement through our belief in them, they will bloom in no time.

"...nothing great has ever been achieved without enthusiasm."
-ralph waldo emerson
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...suddenly one day we realize what our purpose is: we have vision, a goal, and from then on work toward implementing that goal...body composition, career, home, relationship: something we enjoy being involved in already but on a smaller scale....this is where another layer of "awakened doing" arises: enthusiasm.
...enthusiasm means there is deep enjoyment in what we do plus the added element of a goal, or vision that we work toward. When we add a goal to the enjoyment of what we do, the energy-field or frequency changes...a certain degree of structural tension is now added to enjoyment, and so it turns into enthusiasm. At the height of this creative activity, there will enormous intensity, energy, and results behind what we do, laser-like, like an arrow that is moving toward a target.
...to an onlooker, it may appear that we are under stress but the intensity of enthusiasm has nothing to do with stress...unlike stress: enthusiasm has a high frequency and so resonates with the creative power of the universe....the word enthusiasm comes from ancient greek - en and theos, meaning god-like or "possessed by a god"....with enthusiasm we will find we dont have to do it all ourselves, in fact there is nothing of significance that we can do "all" by ourselves...
...enthusiasm always knows where it is going, but at the same time it is deeply at one with the present moment, the now, which is the source of it's aliveness....
...remember: we cannot manifest what we want, we can only manifest what we already have .

....Life doesn't begin 5 pounds from now. If you cannot find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it? Happiness doesn't come from the outside, it comes from within, a state produced by our minds. Although external objects can cause us to feel happy, the objects themselves are not the cause of our happiness. Everyday can be a great day... actually: everyday IS a great day... when you want it to be.
...take a pickle, for example: the largest pickle in a jar may be 10 calories... instead of attacking the pantry for multiple mounds of cashews totaling 900 calories, a 10 calorie pickle will send the same message to the brain to satisfy a hunger twinge... as will a 100 calorie apple, a 25 calorie wedge of iceberg lettuce, and so on... no, not meal replacements, just strategies to get you off the edge in times of emotional eating.. a healthy, low call eating suppressant to keep you on track of your bigger goals.... implemented only if you want it passionately enough; want to achieve that goal of yours.
...circa 1954: it was said, almost everyone believed, that it was impossible for a human to run a mile in under 4 minutes.. doctors said that a human would break down and kill themselves, engineers said it was impossible aerodynamically and biomechanically... and it seemed true, all the runners who tried up to that point, failed... but rodger bannister ran a mile in 3:59.4 on may 6th... six weeks later, john landy ran 3:58... it's not that they were faster or stronger.. it's because they believed they could and wanted it more.. ..as with every ironman winner, the fitness is always the same, the inner road work... that wanting, that drive is the difference.
...and that's what happens to an emotional block or a paradigm, to any belief system when a hole is blown in it; everyone and everything pours through it in a new way of thinking... now it's your turn, your road, your path of inner work, to end, to blow apart some of your b.s., your belief systems about what's possible, what you really want.... take charge of your own mind, and watch the impact unfold.
remember the key mental commitments:
1) are you coach-able?
2) are you willing to shift your personal philosophy to another level?
3) are you willing to do the hard work it takes?
4) are you willing to shift your eating plan?
5) are you willing to shift your training plan?
6) are you willing to shift your biological plan?
...everyone knows how old they are when they look at a calendar...big deal, it's only a date.. but how old you are inside is EVERYTHING.

"The body is a memory card. It stores every emotion and experience you have; from the traumatic to the profound. The untreated ones? Well, they sit with you until they are toxic. Then it's too late.”
-bobby julich, team csc 2006, 3rd place tour de france 1998.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything that is alive pulsates with energy and this energy contains information. Your physical body is both an information center and a highly perceptual system. We are consistently " in-communication " with everything around us through this system.
Within YOUR energy field exists emotional energy, which is created by your internal and external experiences. These experiences can be both positive and negative, light and dark, fleeting or long-lasting: past relationships..traumatic experiences..belief patterns and attitudes..family culture. Your
emotional experiences reside physically in your body and interact with your cells and tissues.
This emotional energy forms an energy language within the cells which carry literal and symbolic information. In this way - your biography - that is the experiences that make up your life - becomes your biology. Your body contains your history - every chapter and verse. As your life unfolds your health becomes a living, breathing statement that conveys your strengths, weaknesses, hopes and fears.
Every emotion travels through your biological system and activates a physical response. Some thoughts - like fear - are like depth charges causing a negative or dark or lower energy response while love can relax your entire body while some are meaningless and pass through the body like wind through a screen.
Learning the language of energy means to evaluate the dynamics in yourself, others and your experiences. Energy information is always truthful and your relationship, your labeling, your embracing, your surrendering, your letting go or holding on too tight influences your health. Managing your energy is an essential component to facilitating your growth, your health, your longevity or your healing.
Whether world-class human or world-class athlete, or both, "healing" is an active and internal process that includes investigating ones attitudes, beliefs, memories, and relationships to energy, experiences, identities and power. While "curing" is the abatement of a block or illness it does not necessarily include alleviation of the emotional stress of the blockage or "healing".
Our desire is to "heal" and release all negative, dark, low patterns that prevent us from being whole, our true, highest, most awesomeness self - whether on the tour de france or our own "tour de france of life".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...for an athlete, confidence is everything. Bobby Julich quickly recovered from the physical injuries sustained in a bad fall in 1999 the year after his 3rd place "tour" podium finish, but it was only last year that he got over the crash in it's entirety, yes the memory card of crash emotions was holding him back.
At 32, Julich was about to call it career when Bjarne Riis called from Team CSC and offered him a contract. "His confidence rubbed off on me. He treated me world class, like a leader, spoke to me like a leader, respected me like a leader.... but i reminded him that i wasn't 27 anymore and that 1998 and third place was a long time ago" Riis responded: "Bobby, you still have it in you" Julich: "..but i'm old now.." Riis asked how old he was and julich told him that he was 32. Riis moved in for the kill.
"Bobby," said Riis, "I was 32 when i won the tour in 1996."
All that was left inside Julich when he joined Team CSC was a tiny little flame wanting to get better. What Riis did was like pouring gasoline on that tiny little flame; what Riis said gives goosebumps to Julich to this day. At the advanced, experienced, and wise age of 35, the fire is still burning in Juilich and the 2006 tour is about to start.
Good Luck Bobby.

…you can do it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are the authors of every next moment.
This zen-like cutting-edge information tells us what we believe, think, and feel actually determines the makeup of our body at the cellular level; choosing mindful happiness rather than drama, gloominess or depression for just that purpose.
Those who have chosen to be happy walk about wearing a tiny little smile that seems to indicate that they have a secret. The smile may be in the mind only, but it is there. No matter what happens, the knowledge of that secret keeps the little smile in place.
Once that secret is in place, you will find yourself enjoying the little things in life: you'll stop to admire a sunset, breeze moving thru you, someone's pretty hair, a shower more than you did before, a walk, a conversation, or simply sitting, thinking looking out. You'll stop focusing on things that are detrimental to your happiness in the knowledge of your little secret.
The nagging worries that all is not right, that something bad is going to happen, that you might fail, might not be good enough, strong enough, bright enough, or own enough will disappear. Doubts will be replaced with confidence.
Of course, you are here to learn; that there are lessons and hurts and heartaches and mishaps; but when you see them with new eyes, a new personal philosophy, with that little smile and secret, you will understand:
1) that you only have great days. ...no hard days, no bad days... only great days.
2) that actually: everything that happens to you is the best possible thing that can happen to you, each and everyday.
3) that everything happens for a reason; everything happens in the right amount of time; and everything that happens is for your complete benefit...everyday.
4) that the universe does not make mistakes, it usually strikes at your weakest points that need strengthening.
5) that how you conduct yourself along your path of life determines how your life unfolds.
6) that when you can be happy in the midst of hardship is when you completely understand the potential of the human mind.
7) that stress will only come from how you interpret events, not from the event itself.
8) so, as an author, by owning hard days, you will create more "hard" days.
9) that by owning bad days, you will create more bad days.
10) that when you shift your personal philosophy about what "a day" could mean or will mean to you now, you have completely shifted what you create and what you feel each and every day...
So, let others have and live in drama because owning and creating drama is the farthest away from an answer and one's highest best self; the universe doesn’t want you to have or live in drama, so why own it?
Let the others think there is drama; let them live in it; you dont have to. You know what is right and wrong, know what you could do better and what you have been awesome at doing.
Remember that some people have amazingly different personal philosophies about what is valuable and worthy. Some people act incredibly un-grateful: don't get near that.
Dont own other people's drama; dont let them drive it into you, keep their stress out of your life.
Live in gratefulness. Be happy. Create happy. Smile and laugh inside.
You can do it !

...love is a force so great, so electric, so energetic...
...yet still one of the most unknown energies in the world....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...want to be lonely, tap into loneliness ...want to feel love, tap into love ...love is an attitude..
…you do love: by the way you think, you act, you move, you respond, you believe, and by the way you vision... some choose it, some don't... but it is there for everybody... you do love: by the way you treat yourself, abuse yourself, by what you eat, what you consume, who you hang with...
...pssst: live your loves, and stay away from your hates, and watch your life bloom, grow, come alive with an abundance of energy because: love is energy... and energy is life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You could search the world over and you will never find anyone more
deserving of your love than yourself.
-Buddha-
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Self-love is a dimension of love. If you are unhappy with yourself,
perhaps you perceive a gap between who you intend to be and who
you are being. Your attitude of mind can eliminate the gap or exacerbate it.
If you judge yourself harshly you will widen the gap. If you are present
with yourself without judgment you will close the gap. The simple act of
being present with yourself without judgment cultivates self-love.
Self-love requires a quality of spaciousness that allows us to be with
ourselves instead of running away. When we are in pain, we want to blame.
When we are in fear, we want to flee. When we are angry or resent, we want
to lash out. All of these behaviors are ways that we negate our self. When we
identify with the nourishing, nurturing center of our being, we begin to
express more of our authentic self with ease and grace. By simply bearing
witness to our unskillful states of mind we may discover that all we need is
a kind word or a corrected perception about life. If we take the time to be
with our self instead of ignoring our self, self-love arises within us and
protects us like the shade of a lush and leafy tree.
When we are present with ourselves we will discover what it means to love
our selves. As we love our self, we learn to love our neighbor as our self
because we have loved all of the neighboring and sometimes conflicting parts
of our own being. As we cultivate the love of our own soul we open to the
love all around us. We gratefully behold our true self everywhere.

"...a negative split is all about presence, a knowing, an infinite patience that what you desire will show up: that you don't have to chase; in training, in racing, even in life: ...a "getting older, looking and feeling younger" mindset."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
..."My technique in time trials is to start a little slower," said Landis, the fourth-to-last rider on course. "I've made the mistake in the past of starting too hard and losing a bit at the end. So in my way of thinking it's better to save something for the end."
Floyd Landis rode to a dominating time trial win Wednesday and gave the Tour of California its third leader in three days. Landis, the 30-year-old leader of Team Phonak, completed the 16.77-mile stage in 35 minutes 58.10 seconds at an average speed of 27.98 mph. The Tour of California ends Sunday with the longest stage of the estimated 600-mile, eight-day event, a circuit race in Redondo Beach.
...marathoners, triathletes, duathletes, cyclists, spinners, fitness aficionados: ...need i say more: a negative split, whether in training or racing is where we strategically layout the hour or course or session in 1/3'rds: first third) start relaxed, second third) gain deeper focus, and 3'rd third) release and raise to another standard ...or 1) fast, 2) faster, 3) fastest, where we spare energy stores for the end because physiology studies show that we slow down "faster" at the end than we go "fast" at the start; or we loose more time at the end when tired than gain at the beginning when we are fresh.... thus the attitude: ....you can finish or finish strong.

can create a PERSONAL BEST... despite... despite the rain,

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...you tap your greatest power when you live in integrity, in truth,
with yourself and with everyone else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...in what areas of life do you say one thing but do another? overcommitt but under deliver?
...when that happens, how do you notice it?
...however, when you tap into the truth, positive energy flows, and higher energy solutions seem to appear as if by magic... you have and develop self-respect, and you feel respected by others.... this sense of well-being becomes contagious, and you accomplish your goals more easily, with fewer messes to clean up and apologies to make...
...for more on the perspectives of the truth.. tune in tommorrow...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
....if you were happy, would you know it ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...in business and in life: a person begins the path to happiness by taking care of themselves first.
...with practice: being healthy, being able to allow and recieve joy and happiness for oneself expands
the capacity to care about, lead, and vision the well-being of others....
...and knowing that you are on the right path is of great happiness.
...happiness is a direct extention, coming from a foundation of responsibility and mindfulness.
...and mindfulness, or mindfulness practice, or mindfulness training is at the heart of cultivating our true
power, our true spiritual power.
..however, starving oneself from the benefits of love, not loving oneself, suffering from unmindful consumption,
eating, drinking, and out and out consuming would not be mindfulness.
..so the practice, the mindfulness practice to uproot personal ill-being, suffering, imbalanced health, starvation
of love, and excess consumption is a determination born from our own insight, and are the real practices of love
and compassion, of living life, and loving living beings.
...no one can practice mindfulness perfectly, not even Buddha, the goal is not to be perfect, but simply to mindful
of ourselves, even when we make mistakes...to get back on the path.
...no one can stop you from being unhappy, or happy... would you recognize the difference ?
...life is: ...mindfulness...camp.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...the wanderers: ruled by their addictions and their appetites, living for the moment and nothing more.
...the wonderers: know something is going on, wonder but not see, learn second hand, react to outside stimuli, could, would, should...
...the watchers: spectators, dream but don't apply, excuses and explanations, one disappointment and they are set back.
...the players: sacrificed, practiced, the best they can be, no compromises, love doing it, reach within, get out of their own way, take risks, tap into their powers, do the inner work, stop guessing and start applying with patience and a "knowing" that it takes many sessions, many weeks, and many years to reach their potential.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...16 weeks till july 4th... 48 sessions if you drop into 3 per week, 62 sessions if you select 4 sessions per week, and 70 sessions if you are really "creating" that body temple you envision...
...whether your personal investment is fitness driven, longevity driven, event driven, or mentally and emotionally driven...a few questions for you to consider:
are you really committed to doing what it takes between now and end of the year to meet your training goals, knowing that holloween, sugar, holiday parties, cakes, breads, alcohol and foods will be presented in front of you on an ongoing basis? (the ave american gains 5-8 lbs oct 31 to jan 15th)
do you REALLY know what it takes to meet those goals?
are you willing to pay the price?
why are you training like you are, or are you training like you were?
what is your "reason" for training so focused, knowing that the reason is the driving force behind staying power and consistency?
what is stopping you from being your best by january 1st?
how will you feel when you are there and you meet your goals?
actually and specifically: what are your goals? fat weight, resting heart rate, lower cholesterol, blood pressure, power, speed, confidence, longevity?
what do you have to do to be better?
how will this serve you?
define commitment, your definition of commitment for this project?
...again, just a quick, short list of inner work, for outer work results, a reflection as it effects your preparation for your training and your new year.
personally: still a student even after 100's of thousands of miles on the bike, after 51 marathons and 10's of thousands of miles on the running roads... i never take any training session, any race, any race preparation for granted... similar to the art of wiping down your bike being a reflection of your care and love for your body and your piece of equipment that will get you there, and/or taking a nap before a major training session and/or packing that extra fuel or electrolyte in your bag; a caring thoughtful loving approach to your new year, your race or training preparation will only manifest a better experience, a better personal best, in alignment with what you truly want... from the inside, the soul side - out...
don't disregard this aspect of your project... treat it special, treat yourself special... RESPECT is one word i see left out of so many training and racing equations from so many people.. respecting themselves first... before pointing fingers...
leading is not about you, it's about getting your act together so streamed line that you can look outside yourself and lead, by example, from the heart to bigger and broader venues, like peace, hunger, education, empowerment, self care, whether it's for your kids, your company division, or world positioned humanity organizations... but yes, it's starts with you, and drives paradigm shifts for all...
have an awesome restful day, be aware, we're cranking it back up over the next 16 weeks...so fuel, eat, load, rest, massage.. treat yourself like a pro athlete if you're taking on a pro training schedule...

"...life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number
of moments that take our breath away..."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To just a personal few: ...thank you for being there and seeing me thru my hip project, and supporting our sessions the past year...
...it was just 8 months ago we were talking european bike trips/hips/tour de france/tucson training just hours before my plane journey to india...
...here's a recent medical-comeback link, my first race back on the bike...titled: "..just warming up" ..that i know you could appreciate or someone you know should read or which could give them hope...
...as we all know and share with others by our actions: ..you can't get the "kid", the joy out of the athlete, ever...
...thank you again...

...make it an awesome new year..!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
T: ..you look exhausted! ...how long have you been at it, sawing that tree?"
P: ..over five hours and i'm beat. ..this is hard work!"
T: ..why don't you take a break for a few minutes and sharpen the saw? ...i'm sure it would go a lot faster."
P: ..i don't have time to sharpen the saw, i'm too busy sawing!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...how many times have we found ourselves in the same situation, desperately trying to complete our responsibilities, meet our goals, exceed others expectations, and all wondering why we are running on empty, or burning-out from the inside-out when we don't stop.
..in a world of people all trying to do it all, it is easy to forget to take care of our most important instrument, tool, and machine... ourselves.
...renewal comes in many forms, and is very individual. ..however, without proper balance, even renewal can become overwhelming. ..the key is simplify our lives and choose activities that support ALL four areas of a healthy life: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. ..it's not good enough to focus only on the physical if that prevents you from building relationships, developing your mind, and strengthening your beliefs.
...remember: ...my goal is to create an environment that inspires and empowers riders to achieve the balance of infinite possibilities to renewal... a place where your mind is clear, your body tested yet rested, where your relationships develop harmony, where timeless principals guide the ride of your life AND your life, if you choose.
...all you've got to be is available. ..knowing inspiration can come from anywhere: an interval, a word, a sound track, an energy from the person next to you, to silence from a 60 minute climb.... not necessarily arriving when you want it to but when it's supposed to....for you.
...knowing your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. ...for those who look outside will always dream.. and those who look inside will certainly awaken.
...here's twelve ways to simplify your life:
1. Unclutter your body and your life.
2. Clear your calendar.
3. Keep your free time free.
4. Take time for active and silent meditation.
5. Return to nature.
6. Put distance between you and your critics.
7. Take and make time for your health.
8. Play.
9. Do everything you can do to remove debt in your life.
10. Slow down and wake up... awaken to the awesomeness of your life.

"...it's not about the energy you have, it's about the energy you have left...."
-- robbie mcEwen, mutiple yellow jersey winner, tour de france.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.......you see, robbie was taught this as a young cyclist preparing himself for mutiple day bike racing events, specifically, the three week tour de france, as he matured on the bike...
....all endurance athletes know this, well, may know this but not neccessarily follow or allow it: ...that it's not about going out hard out from the starting line, but about what you have left for the finish... or for getting to the hotel afterwards, and really about TO the starting line the next day, day after day... no different than a ceo, high level manager, professional, doctor, lawyer or a mutitasking stay at home parent needs to execute and understand...
...spend it all in the morning, or in the first few days of the week, and you'll have nothing left for the other important parts of your week or for your personal life as well....
...yet, many seem to forget this, think it's some high level rocket science that's too hard to comprehend and end up burning out... in class, or by week's end... do it multiple times, and the inner strength of your organs won't serve you, help you, or believe in you for a long time, and when that happens, life's no fun....
...so on the outset of the weeklong, raise your level of standards, tour we call the indoor tour, raising your level of standards means, sleeping, eating, thinking, training, racing, chilling, recovering, and... KNOWING:
...it's not about what you have, it's about what you have left.... self love, not self punishing, day after day, stage after stage.... because when you get this.... you let yourself become everything you've ever wanted.....
...so, we're assuming you've been hydrating, resting, fueling, and preparing yourself to take yourself to another level, starting tonight, and lasting forever....
...see you this week:

Revolution Fitness presents...
gary kobat's Inaugural "Indoor Tour of California 2008"!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
to know the path is commendable...to walk the path is rare...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Has there ever been a time in your life when someone believed in you so much that
your talents and spirit soared in their presence? What did they see in you that you couldn't see in yourself? Did you grow when they shared their faith in you? Were you able to reach higher or ride farther when you knew you had their encouragement behind you?
Having an event, a system, a plan, a coach, and a personal health and wellness philosophy in your life reduces the time spent drifting away from your goals and accelerates the process of turning your longevity dreams into reality. A great event keeps your vision in front of you at all times and keeps bringing you back to a plan of action. The system and philosophy helps modify your plan when necessary, whether you need to be pushed or pulled, inspired or challenged, empowered or left alone. And an intuitive coach knows just the right way to keep you energized and moving, clear and accountable, so you can achieve your best in the many areas of your life.
We get off track all the time. The key to being more successful is learning how to correct your course, quickly and efficiently. Are you motivated but don't know where to start? Are you ready to "get ready" for the spring but are looking for a different approach? Are you willing to invest the energy it takes to make those changes but feel overwhelmed because the new year is already in your lap? Would you like a proven, no nonsense, results oriented template for achieving those wellness goals?
Looking outside yourself for the answers? Don't. They're right inside, next to the
power you were given when you were born. The beauty of the New Year is that we can all start with a clean slate.
Join us in February for gary kobat's Inaugural "Indoor Tour of California" 2008.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
..if you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life, like the indoor tour, is a place of discovery, experience, connection, and wisdom. It's no accident you're on earth, it's no accident you're reading this, it's no accident you're in the tour. Your challenges and what you've suffered along the way, were and are in your life for that purpose; without discovering that vital piece of information, your life will have been like driving 1000 miles to the grand canyon then spending your entire stay in a hotel room. If you believe that life is only
a struggle, that the world is against you, your life will lack the magic that makes it vital, wondrous, and transcendent.
Know that we are never really off the path to our highest best self. Our best self is like an oceanand our paths are like rivers, each river different, but all eventually leading to the ocean. Even when we are not sure, or we've done wrong, or are misguided, we're still on our path to our highest, best self.
The progress you make on your path, like an athlete, will be quick or slow, according to your awareness. If you're consuming too much alcohol, over-full of pizza, chocolate-ooodeed, maintain too much fat-weight or "slacking off-unfocused-just showing up", chances are that your progress will be slow. If you're, however, intentionally seeking your best, which creates a desire to discover yourself,
you'll use your so-called challenges, or mountains as an opportunity to learn, clean up, get in alignment and you'll progress quickly.
An athlete, like anyone in life, will have many challenges, many opponents in a lifetime, but the ultimate opponent is the athlete's own self. To talk about overpowering others is inconsequential; yet one's fear, non-specific goals, ignorance, selfishness, egoic tendencies, insomnia, lack of self-love, and a wide array of blocks or demons are the ones to be conquered. To actually overcome one's own issues is the true nature of victory.
As they say on the tour de france after week number one:
"..i now remember what it is like to manage physical tiredness AND psychological strength in the course
of a three week grand tour: we must adapt one stage at a time."
...when we time trial, they time trial. when they climb, we climb.
see you in session.
gary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rest Days:
"...it's not about the energy you have, it's about the energy you have left...."
All endurance athletes know this, only some execute it. It's not about going out hard, but more about what you have left for the finish, for getting home afterwards, and about getting TO the starting line the next day, day after day. No different than a ceo, a high level manager, or a muti-tasking stay at home parent that needs to execute and understand:
"...spend it all in the morning, or in the first few days of the week, and you'll have nothing left for the other important parts of your week and/or for your personal life as well."
Yet, many seem to forget this, think it's some high level rocket science that's too hard to comprehend and end up burning out: in class, or by week's end; Do it multiple times, and the inner strength of your organs won't dig you, help you, or believe in you for a long time, and when that happens, life's no fun: relegated to bed one or two days a month.
So on the outset of the next two weeks, raise your level of standards on the tour we call the indoor tour: raising your level of standards means, sleeping, eating, thinking, training, racing, chilling, recovering, and... KNOWING:
"...it's not about what you have, it's about what you have left.... day after day, stage after stage.... because when you get this.... you let yourself become everything you've ever wanted."
You don't get fit when you train: you get fit when you recover from when you train !
THE most important, THE most nutritional, THE most impactful part of your training program is REST.
That's right... REST is nutrition. REST IS TRAINING.
Your objective is to BUILD, not always tear down. REST is the cement, the brick, the mortar that builds you back up.
Completed training stages and phases means rest; rest means renewal; renewal means new beginnings. With rest comes renewal, and with renewal we build the force of our character and thereby stand stronger for our future.
In coaching, the concept of rest is easy to share with an athlete, but the most challenging for them to comprehend...
Ask any coach, we can see it a mile away - it's crystal clear ...rest to most athletes means weakness, backing off or to respect their heart rate zones or recovery sessions means weakness to them...
When we, as coaches, bring up the concept of rest the athlete's look at us like we are talking to them in a language from mars. It is so sad, these athletes are so far from the truth and bettering themselves. Athlete's need to understand: no don't do a double: "DO" a DAY OFF ! WHEN they comprehend this... their body and mind blend together, their body serves their visions and supports them all the way to the podium of life; but when they dis-RESPECT this concept, that's right.. a show of disregard and disrespect for themselves, they start to overly breakdown and burn out... get there, to that burnout point, pure burnout, and it could take weeks, months, even years to recover...
Coach's know: those who recover fastest, become the strongest, end of story. ..but that takes wisdom, not just knowledge.
Coach's know that there are alot of smart or knowledgeable athlete's out there, but knowledge is just information, where as wisdom is the execution of the knowledge: so what a coach loves to develop is the wisdom in an athlete; a maturity about being, "doing" one's highest self; and the best know, coach and podium athlete alike, that it all starts with resting and recovering.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...what are YOU creating ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seriously, if you haven't gotten it by now: we are the creator of our own experiences. Our emotions are our indicators of our alignment, our direction, and/or connection to our future and our source. Like a sculptor, painter, potter, or writer molding and crafting through the focus of our minds, we broadcast our signals at every moment, with these signals easily understood and received by many. What we are feeling and thinking creates our world. The stronger the feelings, the stronger the alignment with those thoughts. You are inviting your highest good, or sentencing yourself to a term of "in your own way-ness."
Our emotions are our compass. With this knowledge, we can now guide our direction or even what we attract, using our emotions to feel our way to joy or happiness. And once we are in control of our emotional direction, we feel a sense of relief, with less doubt. We see and enjoy our life, as a prisoner of nothing.
To help you navigate the path of infinite possibilities, we've created an EGS, an emotional guidance system, a tool, a chart, a visual for you to cut out, paste up on the wall, the desk, fold in the planner or purse to be utilized to help you "move up" on the scale of joy and happiness. Some of you may be feeling bad, and not really know how bad till you grade yourself on the scale. Fret not. As your goal would be to just allow yourself to do the best you can to feel the best feeling you can at that very moment, allowing yourself to find relief by reaching for the best feeling that you can resonate with on the scale. And with practice, you'll find yourself moving up the scale quicker, easier, and with less resistance, feeling better, more frequently, enjoying your day, your week, your month, your life with more flow.
Recently I read about the USA’s own Mary Lou Retton, Olympic Gold medalist, world-class gymnast, 39-year young Mom of 4 beautiful kids, needing to go through a hip replacement after being so fit and energetic all of these years for us to witness. I was thinking the challenge it must have been for her to go from an assertive, smiling inspiration every day to limping and painful each day as the hip deteriorated. From +10s in life, just as she had in the Olympics, to questions about her future.
Ironically, that was the day that my own hip began to deteriorate: the high of running my 51st marathon with a client, along with, being presented Team USA’s All-American award days later - a +10 for me - this new 50-year-old -- to barely walking from the pain six months later. I sat in church, tears flowing down my cheek, feeling depressed, a negative 10 out of 10 on the scale of ultimate emotions, worrying about not being able to serve my clients, compete for my country, make a living in what I loved or even energetically move as I have the other 49 years of my life.
But then it hit me, “What about that new hip resurfacing procedure just approved by the FDA like Tour de France winner Floyd Landis just received?” This started to move my emotions from the lowest of lows, from devastation, up a few notches to worried (“Can I do this?”). As I allowed this possible solution to take center stage, my emotions climbed to contentment (“Okay, I need to get researching”). From there my mood edged up to hopeful (after I found out more) to optimistic (after phoning a recent athletic patient and hearing his results) to positive (being a life coach after all, we know that what we focus on we attract !) to passionate (about having the surgery) to freedom when I did it!
Yes, I am 5 weeks post-op from flying to see the best surgeon in the world (located in India) for this new hip resurfacing procedure and I’m feeling, seeing, and moving like I never have in my life. I’ve been given a new opportunity in life to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do by not allowing myself to live in that depressed state. Rather, I had faith, and a knowing if I just moved up on the scale of better emotions, that I would manifest better solutions to help manifest a better outlook: all while not knowing, however, the how, where, why, or when it would all get done but just knowing that my own state of optimism and faith would connect me with the universe’s best results for me. Just as Mary Lou did for herself in her moment of “movement despair”.
So with that energy I have created a scale for you to use: an emotional guidance scale structured for you to go from the negative or bad: a –10, to the positive or good: a +10.... with the positive being in alignment with source energy and with the negative being disconnected from that same love and source energy, that of which we were made. Or putting it another way: "The negative is as far from the answer as universally possibly".
The Emotional Guidance System. (EGS)
10: joy, love, freedom.
09: empowered, grateful.
08: passion, appreciative.
07: enthusiasm, eagerness.
06: belief, positive.
05: expectation, knowledge.
04: optimism.
03: hopefulness.
02: contentment.
01: average.
00: boredom, pessimism.
-1: frustration, irritation.
-2: impatience, overwhelm.
-3: disappointment.
-4: doubt, worry.
-5: blame, discouragement.
-6: anger, revenge.
-7: hatred, rage, jealousy.
-8: guilt, unworthiness.
-9: fear, grief, powerless.
-10: depression.
So the next time you're in an emotional bind: go ahead: plot yourself on the scale.... and start moving on up.
The EGS: Show your kids, your spouse. Share it with a friend.
Until next time:
Train smart. Live, race, recover smarter.
Gary.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...we are our practice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...everyone has faith. ..the question is: what do we have faith in?
...when our faith is in fear, when we are so accepting of fear, completely convinced
of the idea of fear, any contradiction is unthinkable and impossible. ...faith in fear
can paralyze us and produce more fear in our lives. ...this is not only a spiritual
principle, but a street, a scientific, and logical principle as well.
...we live in a world of infinite possibility; that which we focus on, believe in,
incantate in our minds is reproduced in our outer world. ...we can pile up all the
evidence in our mind that validates what we should have faith in, ultimately
however, we have a choice. ...when we choose our light, not our dark.. our
positive, not our negative.. our good, not our bad.. our peace, not our anger ..our
forgiveness and belief, not our blame or our shame we are no longer at the effect
of temporary circumstances... results that we passionately want in our life, feelings
that we want to experience don't have to wait till you "get the check",
"heal the adrenals", or "they make a decision"... we don't have to change to be
happy, participate, or feel better... we have a choice right here and right now
to do it, in many ways, at many levels, at many intensities...
...remember: we're not missing anything, we're whole as we are, with plenty of
faith to invest...
...the question is: where are you investing yours?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"....life moves through you....right here, right now."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you ever treat this moment as if it were an obstacle to be overcome?
Do you feel you have a future moment to get to that is more important?
...almost everyone lives like this most of the time... since the future never arrives except as the present, it is a dysfunctunal way to live.. it generates a constant undercurrent of unease, tension, and discontent.. it does not honor life, which is now and never not now. ...when your attention moves into focus, into now, there is an alertness, a clarity, a simplicity, no room for problem making, just this moment, like waking up from a dream.
...since there is no escape from the now, why not welcome it, become friendly with it; when you make friends with the present moment you feel at home no matter where you are.. it is recognizing what is primary, and then you can deal with what is secondary with great ease.
...remember: fear and faith cannot harmoniously live in the same place.
